Tentipi Camp

Come closer to nature

Tentipi Camp secondary image Javeron 2015 4

The camp fire, togetherness, the Nordic tipis, outdoor activities … Come and join us!

A line of Nordic tipis stand in a meadow; some others stand sheltered by the trees at the edge of the forest. It has been a chilly night and wisps of smoke are rising from the Nordic tipis’ chimneys. Some people are eating breakfast around the campfire. Steam is rising from the big coffee pot on the fire, filling the crisp air with the fragrance of freshly boiled coffee. Down by the lakeside, preparations are underway for the morning’s canoe trip.

The design and activities included in each Tentipi Camp can vary but what they all have in common is the perpetually burning campfire where people gather to sit and talk, the warm, spontaneous interaction that arises and the homely Nordic tipis from Tentipi which can be rented if you do not already own one but want to try one out.

ProAdventure Tentipi Camp
Close to Whittington, England

ProAdventure are pioneers of tipi camps in the UK, learning from experience and from their European friends. Once or twice a year, they meet up with tipi owners across the country to socialise, have fun and swap ideas.

ProAdventure held the UK’s first Tentipi Camp in April 2015 on the banks of the River Dee. It was attended by over 60 people. There were bushcraft activities, canoeing and plenty of opportunities to chat around a campfire.

Their 2016 camp, held in the Welsh Borders, was just as popular with old and new friends, enjoying the scenery and activities organised by their campsite hosts at Underhill Farm.

In 2017, ProAdventure organised two Tentipi Camps. The first was at Carrog on the River Dee in May and the second at Bala Lake in September.

Their 2018 camp in May was also held at Carrog on the River Dee.

ProAdventure were the first in the UK to arrange a Tentipi Camp, and their success continues. They would love to invite you along if you have your own Tentipi® Nordic tipi, or if you are interested in trying out a tent from Tentipi, they have a few for hire but be quick as they go fast! Either way you will need to book (see below).

The ProAdventure Tentipi Camp 2019 is at a completely new venue, close to Whittington near the market town of Oswestry, close to the England–Wales border.

Friday evening | “Fika” (that’s Swedish for coffee and cake/sandwich).

Saturday morning | Canoeing, kayaking and paddleboarding. Bring your own equipment or hire a canoe when you book. Otherwise you can walk along the bank and enjoy watching the fun from the side. The area is quite flat so you could bring your bikes too.

Saturday afternoon/evening | After 3 pm, the targets will be set up and there will be some axe-throwing.

At dinner time, ProAdventure will fire up their Uuni pizza oven and everyone can make and bake their own masterpiece in the wood-fired oven.

In the evening there will probably be a talk, hopefully by an interesting local. The rest of the evening will no doubt be spent socialising and chatting around the campfire.

Sunday | An opportunity to share skills so if you can carve spoons, make felt or wool or do any kind of craft that’s transportable and you could show a few people, then please bring it along.

Tentipi Camp, autumn camp
The Elbtalaue campsite in Dahlenburg, Göhrde, Germany
FULLY BOOKED! If you would like to take part in this sort of event, Absolut Canoe is organising six new Tentipi Camps in Germany in 2020. More information will be posted on this website around the end of December.

A Tentipi Camp with a “Forest and Wolf” theme. We set up camp at the Elbtalaue campsite in Dahlenburg, a lovely little spot on the edge of the Göhrde forest. If the weather is good, the heated pool (23° C) will still be open.

On Friday, you will have the opportunity to go on a 4-kilometre hike along the Naturum Göhrde nature trail. Göhrde is a real paradise for nature-lovers!

On Saturday, there will be a guided “wolf hike” with Kenny Kenner, a local wolf expert with long experience of organising such hikes. The hike will take 3–3½ hours and will take place no matter what the weather is like. This hike is also suitable for children from 8 years old. Maximum 20 participants so advance booking is required.

Depending on how the weather has been, it may be possible to pick wild mushrooms in the Göhrde forest and then enjoy them for dinner. Our big frying pan will be at the ready!

The starry sky over Elbtalaue is one of the most beautiful in Germany. Nowadays, there are few places that are as dark as this spot. This location is part of only two percent of Germany’s total area that has not been spoilt by light pollution. The darker the sky, the more stars we’ll be able to see.
